An underlying purpose of all communication is to build relationships. Every day you work with internal and external clients, and the relationships that you build help determine how effectively you solve problems together.
This one-day workshop gives you practical tools and skills for communicating successfully on the job. You will spend time building your skills and then editing and revising your written communications.
Program Objectives

| Manage expectations effectively with diverse audiences: adapt for generational, cultural, and personal differences. | |
| Avoid sending micro-messages that can interfere with business relationships; apologize without sounding defensive. | |
| Give and receive feedback effectively: understand the difference between constructive feedback and negative feedback. | |
| Set the right tone by using the You viewpoint and focusing on the positive. | |
| Edit your documents so that they are professional. |

| Writing Style: active voice and the tactful voice, the you viewpoint, writing in the affirmative. | |
| Format: structuring messages to connect with readers; using white space effectively. | |
| Editing participant writing samples as time permits. |
Communicate to Relate meets on site for one day. Course materials include a writing handbook as well as materials tailored to the group. During a portion of the workshop, participants edit their own documents, reshaping them so that clients immediately connect with their message.
